Mallorca – A Paradise for Golfers

Mallorca – A Paradise for Golfers

Mallorca is not only known for its stunning 550 kilometres of coastline, but also for its more than 20 first-class golf courses. Golfers can drive along breathtaking roads on this picturesque island and discover some of the best golf courses in Spain. Among the most prestigious is the T-Golf & Country Club, a course ranked among the top 100 in Spain, which this year hosts the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final from 4 to 7 November. In addition, the European Tour returns after a 10-year break for the Mallorca Golf Open from 21 to 24 October. The tournament takes place at Golf Santa Ponsa, one of the island's most prestigious golf destinations, and offers the opportunity to see some of the best golfers in the world up close.

In addition to the great golf courses, Mallorca offers a unique variety of landscapes. The winding coastal roads and country lanes lead past stunning beaches, tranquil coves, wineries and charming villages. Although the beaches have been attracting visitors for years, the rural areas are also becoming increasingly popular. Here, travellers can find stylish, rustic accommodation, often just a stone's throw from the golf courses. Many golf resorts offer a variety of tournaments for recreational golfers throughout the year, making Mallorca an ideal destination for golf holidays. Thanks to the good flight connections to Palma, the island can be reached quickly from many European cities.

Golfing around Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island, is a perfect starting point for golfers on a short holiday. The city is picturesquely situated in a bay in the south-west of the island and impresses with its cosmopolitan atmosphere, its historic architecture from the Moorish period and its imposing cathedral from the 13th century. Palma also offers first-class shopping, a vibrant nightlife and a wide range of accommodation options, from resorts to boutique hotels and flats.

Just 12 kilometres from Palma is Son Vida, the oldest golf course in Mallorca. With its three 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course, Son Vida is suitable for players of all levels. The course is particularly challenging and is known for its picturesque location surrounded by mountains and overlooking the bay. The Son Muntaner golf course, also nearby, is home to the oldest tree on the island, a 1000-year-old olive tree called Na Capitana. Both courses offer entertaining events throughout the year, such as the Arabella Golf Mallorca Marathon, where 63 holes are played in one day.

Another highlight is the T-Golf & Country Club, just 15 kilometres from Palma. The course was completely renovated in 2018 and features Bermuda fairways and bentgrass greens. The breathtaking Tramuntana mountains form a picturesque backdrop for this challenging course, which will host the final of the 2021 European Challenge Tour.

Other golf highlights on the island

Mallorca offers golfers numerous first-class courses designed by famous golf course architects such as Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones and John D. Harris. The German championship course Son Gual is another highlight, praised by golfing greats such as Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance. In addition to Son Vida and Son Muntaner, the Arabella Golf Resort also offers Son Quint, an 18-hole course and the only pitch-and-putt course on the island.

Celebrities such as Boris Becker, Claudia Schiffer, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have already swung their clubs at Golf de Andratx. Other spectacular courses with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean are Alcanada, Capdepera, Canyamel and Vall d'Or.

Luxury golf holidays on Mallorca

Mallorca is one of the leading golf destinations in Europe. Numerous hotels offer special golf packages. The rural hotel La Reserva Rotana even has a private 9-hole course. The Hotel Golf Santa Ponsa is located directly on a golf course, while the Gran Hotel Son Net in Puigpunyent welcomes golfers.

You don't necessarily need to bring your own clubs for the perfect golfing holiday, as many golf courses offer equipment hire. However, it is recommended that you take your handicap certificate with you, as this is required on some courses.

Mallorca - a hidden gem for golfers

In addition to excellent golf courses, Mallorca also offers a touch of luxury. Pula Golf in particular, a resort built on an old manor house dating back to 1581, is an excellent example of the combination of tradition and modernity. With a demanding course that is a challenge for golfers of all abilities, Pula Golf is one of the leading courses on the island.

The Club de Golf Alcanada, known for its breathtaking coastal scenery, is one of the island's leading golf courses.
